Normally when we search for assignedto only active/resolved cases are shown in the resulting list. This is confirmed correct behavior in this question.

However, we have one particular user for whom a search of assignedto:user includes 5 closed cases. The user has been with us for four years and has hundreds of closed cases, so we're not sure why these particular 5 show up or why this only happens for the one user.
Have you seen this before? What causes it?
Once I re-activated and re-closed these 5 closes, the problem went away.
