Currently we can use the AutoSubscribe plugin to define various cases that we want to subscribe to automatically based on project, area, etc. It would be great if we could also configure AutoSubscribe for virtual users. This would allow us to configure projects/areas to auto-assign all new cases to a specific person (as we do now), but also auto-subscribe virtual users. We aren't able to do this now because one can only define his own AutoSubscribe settings -- one can't log in as a virtual user, so there is (I think) no way to automatically subscribe a virtual user to anything. I would assume that if this feature were implemented, it would be limited to site admins or maybe project admins.

Here's an example scenario where this would be useful:

We have an Inbox project with a "Web Site Bugs" area. We want incoming cases in that area to auto-assign to our support person (which it already does), but we also want business analysts to be subscribed to these cases so they can monitor issues. Normally, the suggestion would be for the business analysts to set up their own AutoSubscribe settings for this. However, the catch is that we rotate which business analysts are responsible for monitoring these fairly often, and it would be much easier to specify that the "Biz Analysts" virtual user will auto-subscribe to the case, and just change the email addresses attached to the virtual user as needed. This also makes it easy to support people changing roles, going on vacation, etc.

This is a strained example because I'm changing the areas and titles of people to be generic. So, without complicating the issue with specifics of our business, it's the best I can do. ;)

Short of this feature being implemented, is it possible (and practical) to auto-subscribe virtual users with manual database edits if we're using the "for your server" version? – Glenn Arndt Nov 29 at 17:28
We're looking for this same functionality. We'd like to auto-subscrie a virtual user to all cases within a specific project. – Samuel Neff Jan 24 at 1:51

For the interim, I found it was pretty straightforward to add a virtual user subscription manually in the database. Look for a Plugin_xx_AutoSubscribe table and open it up. Look up the appropriate ixPerson values in the Persons table and ixProject values in the Projects table and then manually add the rows you want.

Not ideal, but seems to work.
