We run our own install of FB/Kiln on a VM setup with:

  • 2 CPUs @ 2.93GHz
  • 4GB of RAM
  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition, Service Pack 2
  • IIS 6
  • FB 8.4.90 (DB 780, Build 1) with more than 12,000 cases
  • Kiln 2.4.112.0 (DB 109)

a few minutes after starting the IIS app pool, the w3wp.exe process consumes more than 200MB of RAM. The memory consumption can reach 400MB when it processes some requests.

Is this level of memory consumption healthy, or is there something wrong with our instance?

Sounds like normal memory usage to me. We have a similar set up to you for FogBugz / Kiln and our copy of w3wp.exe sits there with approximately 400MB of memory constantly and has maxed out at 650MB previously.
