Suppose we have a lot of cases in cases grid view. I choose to edit one of them, then when I return to cases grid view I find myself positioned to the top of the page and that causes me to scroll down to search the place where I have been before hitting "edit". If we have 2-3 pages of cases than it becomes annoying quite fast.

I think it's more likely that if you working with some case then the other cases which you are interested in are sitting in cases grid view somewhere not far from this particular case so it would be natural if you will be positioned to your last position after returning from case edit to cases grid view.

Now the only way to return to the position where I was I have to hit back->back->back... in browser, but it is not convenient, because:

  1. I have to hit back many times in a row
  2. it even works worse when I close some case

I suppose it can be done using some anchors.

Also, it would be great to have some sort of "OK and return to cases list view" button, because more than 50% of all my case edits are of the following scenario:

  1. select case in cases grid view
  2. click edit, go to case
  3. write some comment
  4. hit "OK"
  5. hit "List cases"
  6. find the position in cases grid view where I was before step 2.

If we have "OK and return" button with last position memory, then the last 3 steps would be replaces with only one step "OK and return".

Update Responding to the first comment bellow. Opening case in another tab cause no less friction than I've described above. There should be the following steps:

  1. CTRL+click on case
  2. go to the new tab
  3. click on action I want to do with the case (not necessary just writing some comment, but it can be close, assign, e.t.c.)
  4. edit smth
  5. click ok
  6. close tab

See, there're the same amount of steps involved if going the "new tab" way.

Why don't you open the case in a new browser tab? Just Ctrl+Click on the link. – Michel de Ruiter Jun 23 at 7:59
I prefer to use case "context menu" to perform some actions like close, edit, assign, e.t.c. – Dmitry Lobanov Jun 23 at 8:21
And opening case in new tab cause more friction than if there would be some sort of "OK and return" button. – Dmitry Lobanov Jun 23 at 8:27
+1 I often have exactly the same scenario. – Uwe Raabe Jun 23 at 10:10
+1 This is such a major issue for me! It drives me mad and I don't know why more people haven't complained about it. I was thinking a 'AJAX popup' case edit window would work well. – unknown (google) Nov 2 at 9:28
