The search functionality is more flexible than that offered by filters. For instance, you can't filter on multiple items.

For a given filter, just click on the Refine Further: menu to bring up the dropdown, then select the Search for item and add any search you want.

	Couple this information with all the different ways to search (fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/4399), you can create some very complicated filters. – Corey Apr 26 2012 at 20:26
	Indeed, and very powerful. I love adding a search for `-viewed:"today"` to a My Cases filter. It only shows me things I haven't looked at today. – Rich Armstrong♦ Apr 27 2012 at 15:56
