We use Fogbugz to keep tabs on problems experienced by our clients. We provide logins to our clients who then can add new issues and track our progress dealing with them, as well as providing a documented medium to request more info etc. All very fine and dandy.

The only major drawback is when we internally are debugging, we want to add internal notes that we don't want to share with the client ("Tried X, did not work", "Issue not so urgent" etc). These would be comments that are visible only to the user that submitted them (or possibly a group of users).

At the moment, we get around this by running two concurrent tracking systems - one client-facing, one internal only. It works, but there's a lot of information duplication and they get out of sync frequently. If Fogzbugz could do both functions, we'd be a very happy lot..

I'm not sure if this is a feature request or a "how do I" :)

We normally do this by not having the client log in to FogBugz. We just use FB to contact them via email which is recorded in the system, but our internal notes are not viewable by them.

Hi Micheal - thanks for the reply. Yeah, this is a possibility, but the clients like having a "list" of outstanding issues. With email, they'd not get that sleek interface they're used to.. – Alexander Dec 1 2009 at 10:28

In FogBugz 8 the Community User experience has been improved considerably. Community Users can now get a list of all the cases they've submitted. If they need a list of all outstanding issues, this probably doesn't help much. – db Aug 19 2010 at 16:57

Note that if you spawn a related case into another project the customer can't see, they will not see the case relation either. It'll be to them as if it doesn't exist.

Hi there, We have the same requirement to be able to use the Fogbugz system with a client who is performing UAT. We are currently using CopyCase to maintain a separate internal environment but would prefer to have one environment and the ability to mark updates as private or public or even default them to private for certain users so there are no errors.

Is this a feature that you will be working on in the future? Thanks CA
