Problems:

  1. I use the Kanban plugin to keep track of my cases, but not everybody uses Kanban. If someone assigns a case to me, it does not show up on my board unless they assign it to a column.
  2. Bringing non-Kanban cases onto the board requires you to leave the board, which is annoying if you normally work "inside" the board. Yes, you can add cases one-by-one, but this doesn't help if you don't know the name/ID. We often work the backlog based on attributes of the case (area, priority, etc.).

Solution:

It would be very helpful if there were an filterable column/list -- maybe on the far left -- that could show cases not listed on the board. I could then show my non-Kanban cases in this column, or my cases + starred cases, or whatever else I wanted to "watch."

This would be very useful for adding backlog cases to the board -- filter to the area you are working on, then drag them over as needed. I assume they would then pick up the "default" color.

If this feature is added, it might be a good idea to make it collapsible so you can hide it when you need to.

(One area that needs some thought is filter conflicts. When the board is using a different filter than the column, the cases may "disappear" if they are dragged over to a column. But maybe this is OK.)

The Kanban plugin is a great tool, but it wasn't developed by Fog Creek. Stefan Rusek is its creator; however, I'm not sure if he's actively maintaining it.
