Being that FogBugz runs on .NET, Windows is the main platform. What issues might we run into running FogBugz on Linux.

Overall, the Linux version is very stable and works well for many customers, including many site licenses with hundreds of users.

Linux customers do see issues more frequently for two reasons:

  1. there's more variability in the install environments, and,
  2. the Linux version only runs on MySQL, which is free, but has poorer performance and more stability problems than SQL Server. We encourage customers who run FogBugz on MySQL to have a very good MySQL administrator on staff.

There is one known issue with Linux that's a bit beyond our control: Mono has memory leaks. It's very likely that ASP .NET has memory leaks as well, but the memory is regularly release by the recycling of the application pool in IIS. If the Mono memory leaks become a problem for the customer, they can avail themselves of a built-in automatic restart of Mono/FogBugz each night. This is done via a setting in the application.data file.

There is currently not support for Active Directory authentication on the Linux version. There are some quirks to Mono's ability to connect to Active Directory, and the number of customers running on Linux servers with Active Directory authentication (which is a Microsoft product) has thus far been too small to make it worthwhile for us to spend significant engineering time on it, but we're not averse to it.
