We've been using FogBugz for tracking bugs and features for some time now, but are just getting started with wiki, and it's great!

One feature which would really help would be for searches (using the good ol' search box we use all the time) to also search within the content of attachments, particularly Word documents on Wiki articles.

The reason for this is that we want to start keeping our library of requirements documentation as wiki articles and they often get written as Word documents, plus we have a tonne of them already. Having them as searchable content without the need to copy & paste them into wiki articles would be really helpful.

Currently, FogBugz does not index attachments. Please vote up this question (not this answer) to show your support for this feature request!

That being said, have you considered writing these documents directly in the wiki from the start? In addition to being automatically indexed for searching, composing your documents directly in the wiki would also give you revision history, and global access (no files to send around or remember to upload to the wiki).

Yes I've thought of writing the content in the wiki directly. We usually have to send requirements docs off to customers to review and I was hoping to avoid all the copying + pasting. – Nick Feb 23 2011 at 13:47
You can setup your customers with community user logins to FogBugz and set the permissions on the wikis so that only then (and you) can see the articles, then send them the links for review. If you need to show them only certain articles, you can move an article to an accessible wiki for review, then back to an internal wiki afterwards. – adambox Apr 1 2011 at 18:52
The fact that FogBugz does not index attachments is a big problem. We have a very mature system with standard Word documents for each step of the development process. We have taken years to get to this point with our customers. I cannot practically say "OK guys let's all use FogBugz now". It gets worse. While all the documents are on the Windows file server they are indexed and searchable. As soon as I move them to Wiki they are no longer searchable. This is a big incentive NOT to use FogBugz for specifications. Simply adding attachment indexing would solve this problem. – James Bayley Jun 2 2011 at 20:09
We have a similar problem. Many of our customers have internal procedures which require then to produce detailed documentation of the steps to reproduce an issue/fault/problem/bug. They tend to write these as Word documents which are then emailed to us (ie into Fogbugz). Its not practical for us copy-paste the content of every attachment into the case, but we really miss out on the inability to search the attachments at a later date. – GMNA Jun 9 2011 at 22:07
I would use this feature to find bugs that have similar crash logs. – eric.slosser Feb 28 2012 at 16:47
