I would be great to have a button that just assigns the case back to the last person that assigned it to you.

So you can add a note and shoot it back to the person without having to drop down and find them.

Not a workaround for this, but something I've found helpful is that you can type into the assignee dropdown and it will automatically filter the results that match what you've typed. This can be really handy when dealing with a long list of users. – db Feb 15 2011 at 20:30

Some of the back-and-forth assignments are due to providing informational updates/pings to other users, which is resolved with the Notify plugin.

Similarly, this feature is probably best handled with a plugin. Obviously 'Notify' doesn't cover all of the cases where this would be helpful. However, the plugin API was written to address features that have a small scale and use case, such as this one.

Of course, if you have any workflow specific questions and need some help removing this kind of friction from your FogBugz workflow, please contact us!

I'm not sure it is such a small scale. If you are the team leader of many people, you spend your day responding to people who have assigned things to you to look at. With email, you just hit reply, with FogBugz it is assign->drop down list->find person... this adds up to plenty of friction as the day goes on. It just isn't as quick as hitting a reply button and probably should be. I will contact as well. – Dave Feb 17 2011 at 12:43
If that's the case, then why not use the Notify plugin for FogBugz 8? Instead of assigning the case to you, they can just make their own edit asking you to take a look, enter your name in the Notify field, and you get an email notification that someone needs your attention. No assign/reassign necessary. – Bradford Feb 17 2011 at 16:10
