I would love to convince our group to use FogBugz, but the cost is a sticking point. To ease this pain, suppose we do not purchase any maintenance (per user, per day):

  1. Do we still have access to minor version updates? Security updates?

  2. Is our only support option these public "forums"?

  3. If we then want to add another 10 license pack in the future, can we just pay that price (no maintenance)?

  4. If FogBugz 9 comes out, could we then make the decision to pay (retroactively) for the maintenance contract or buy the new version outright?

  5. Any other thoughts?

I'm sure you've seen it, but for others wondering about FogBugz for their server and maintenance plans, see fogcreek.com/fogbugz/for-your-server.html. That answers some of these questions (e.g. "Even without maintenance [you get] unlimited free patches for security-related bugs") – Daniel LeCheminant Jan 7 2011 at 3:56

Please post back here with answers to the questions. I would guess that these sorts of things are asked a lot when people are considering making a purchase, and the pricing pages, while informative, don't answer all of these questions very clearly (#3 & #4 especially). – cdeszaq Jan 10 2011 at 13:57
