This question is a result of my other question: http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/6491/getting-a-list-of-case-numbers

When I search for:

case:20582 OR case:20637 OR case:20660 OR case:20638 OR case:20636 OR case:20306 OR case:20297 OR case:20629

what I get is the case list in the normal case grid view, with customizable columns and a checkbox next to each one.

When I search for:

20582,20637,20660,20638,20636,20306,20297,20629

what I get is the batch operation screen, which only shows me aggregate information and allows me to operate on all bugs at once.

Is this desired behavior? I would expect to get the case list in the second search, especially since if I wanted to do a batch operation from the case list, I could click 'check all' and 'edit'.

Furthermore, is there a way to turn the batch operation screen back to a case grid?

Thanks,

-Steve

This is the desired behavior. If you enter just a case number in the search box, it opens the case. If you open multiple cases (as in a comma-delimited list of them) the consistent behavior would be to open multiple cases, which in FogBugz is a batch operation. We've overridden the "normal" search behavior to allow people to quickly get to a case number they know about.

Using the "case:###" syntax engages the search axis to locate a case and display it as a search result.

There isn't a way to go from the batch list to the case list, however. As you pointed out, you can easily get from the case list to the batch, though.

Feature request? I think it'd be handy to be able to apply a filter, grab a set of cases, and turn that into a new filter. – ssalter Jan 5 2011 at 20:22
I agree with ssalter, I'd like to see a feature that would allow me to turn off bulk operation, or be able to switch to the case grid. I often have a list of cases that I know about, that I would like to display in the case grid or temporarily save a view for. Creating or adding a tag to these cases is not an option for me, and there usually isn't something specific to each of them that I can search on. – mq11235 Jan 25 2011 at 18:03
Anyone else? Vote up my question if so. – ssalter Feb 2 2011 at 14:54
