Can you tell me when you expect Windows Server 2008 R2 to be supported?

We are using it right now Windows 2008 R2 64 Bits. So I can say that it works.

Is there something that makes you think Windows Server 2008 R2 is not currently supported, Matt? I don't see any restrictions/limitations regarding this on the Windows system requirements page.

The system requirements page only lists Windows 2008, not Windows 2008 R2. Just because a program works on one, it may not necessarily work on the other.

E.g. Exchange 2007: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719(EXCHG.80).aspx "64-bit edition of the Windows Server 2008 Standard/Enterprise/Datacenter operating system" http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/07/17/451835.aspx "Exchange Server 2007 itself is not supported to be installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 system"

Or McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 4.5: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB51569 "ePO 4.5 supports Microsoft Windows 2008 Server Release 2 with ePO 4.5 Patch 1". (There's no footnote for Windows 2008, i.e. the unpatched version of ePo 4.5 works there.)

Based on Jedi Master Spooky's comment, I assume that it does work fine, but it would be useful for someone from FogCreek to update the system requirements so that it's actually a supported platform.

The system requirements page currently specifically states that Windows 2008 R2 is not supported.

But the phrase "not supported" sometimes means "doesn't work" and sometimes means "we won't help you with it if it doesn't work.

Do FogCreek actually have any reason to believe that FogBugz won't work on Windows Server 2008 R2, or is it simply a case of it being untested and help not being offered?

FCS like to calculate a reasonable amount of time to support a new OS, then triple it (or use three years whichever is longer), and then wait that amount of time before starting to decide what they're going to do about the new OS. It's the ballad phase of rock-stardom. – Will Dean Jul 19 2010 at 18:13
@Will I'm not actually asking them to start supporting it, though. Just define which meaning of "support" they're using. FWIW, it seems to work fine for me. – Rich Jul 27 2010 at 10:29
