Question

Once raised, our cases are all assigned to a Virtual User. From there I assign them on to a developer. The email address to which notifications for this Virtual User are sent is mine.

I am happy getting the notification when someone else assigns a case to this Virtual User (as I need to do something with it), but I also assign cases to the Virtual User myself, which results in me getting an email I don't need.

Just like if I assign a case to myself (i.e. my real user), can email notifications can be prevented if I assign a case to a Virtual User which will result in me being emailed?

This related post requests that notifications to a Virtual User not say the case is "assigned to you." It would help me distinguish these, but I still prefer avoiding the unwanted emails.

Update: a workaround and possibly better solution is to utilize the filtering ability of your email client (once this request is implemented) so that FogBugz does not need to be complicated with more logic an settings.

An interesting idea. The biggest problem I foresee is that we would need to include a knob to enable/disable this kind of functionality. Obviously we can't magically decide if you do or do not want a particular notification email; we would need to rely on whether the email addresses were the same or some other, similar, method.

We can't make a blanket decision, though, as not everyone is going to want to miss those notification emails. We're very wary about creating new knobs in FogBugz as it's fairly complex already.

However, if anyone does want to see this feature, I encourage them to upvote the question (not this answer!) to let us know! We have definitely misread the community before, so the feedback is invaluable to us.

I would add to that original request to include edits too. Any time I edit a case assigned to a virtual user where my email is in the list of emails for the virtual user, don't send my email-address an email about the edit. I don't want emails about my own changes.
