I would like to be able to specify different values for a field, based on the category the field is applied to. Right now this seems only possible for predefined field Status.

This request is related to but different from: http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/2102/can-i-configure-a-custom-field-to-apply-only-to-cases-of-a-specific-category http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/2105/can-i-create-custom-fields-that-only-apply-to-certain-projects

Per-project and per-category custom fields are high on our list of features to get into an upcoming release. You can try out BugMonkey as James suggested, but I would probably wait for a future version of Custom fields to have separate fields for each category (you may be able to name them the same, or you might just have to change the name slightly for each category)

You are correct, this is currently not supported directly by FogBugz. You could filter the list using BugMonkey, I suppose, but that doesn't seem like a great solution to me.

Your best bet is to create completely indpendent fields for the two status; you might be able use BugMonkey to make inapplicable custom fields uneditable based on the category.

From the point of view of usability, it is much better to have two different fields, since it allows you to have separate tool tips for each field.
