Feature request: Customizable columns in release notes

What is the difference between generating release notes for Milestone1 and listing cases associated with Milestone1 in the the case list view? These are the trivial differences I can see:

  1. release notes can be exported in HTML and XML while case lists can only be exported in Excel
  2. release notes don't have custom column options so you only see Case, Title, Status, Milestone, and Release Notes whereas case lists can show any column except Release notes.
  3. release notes require you to complete the "release notes" field to show up in the final report

The reason I'm asking is because I want to be able to generate a single piece of documentation that shows which cases were resolved for a specific milestone, and I want to be able to share this document internally (managers, etc..) and externally (the customer, etc..).

Natively it seems like I should use the FogBugz release notes feature, but this seems to be significantly less powerful than the standard case view with a filter applied.

I couldn't agree more. It seems backward for us to offer an incredibly powerful filter, but not for release notes. I'm going to see if we can do a plug-in or BugMonkey script to offer something a bit more robust and worthy of the rest of the features in the current FogBugz.

We are looking at making a number of improvements to the Release Notes feature for an upcoming release. Stay tuned.

Any more details you might be able to share would be great. We are dealing with trying to use the current version of release notes right now and, to be frank, it sucks. – cdeszaq Dec 15 2010 at 21:34

the canonical feature request is now this posting: fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/2658 There isn't any update on it right now, but we keep an eye on votes to prioritize features for new releases. Feel free to go vote it up now. – adambox Apr 7 2011 at 14:10
