A number of interesting feature requests are answered with something like "Noted, it's in our backlog". While it's good to know, some of these requests are over a year old. Is there any way we can see the status of these items or reinforce our support for them?

The best way to reinforce your support for a feature is to vote it up on this site. We don't keep a public backlog of things we intend to do (because it changes too often and we don't want to give people hope, then disappoint them).

Everybody in the company, for instance, knows that per-project custom fields is our #1 customer request.

Our statuses go basically like this:

status-proposed

status-evaluate

status-completed

And at any time, we might do status-deferred. We generally have a good reason for doing status-deferred. You can check the deferred requests out here. If the justification given is not up to snuff, we might not have fully understood the use case and the value in supporting it, or might have inadequately explained why we're loath to implement. Please let us know via email and I'll make sure we go back, fully understand, and fully explain.

The specific request you reference here was answered by an engineer in the early days, so is due for a reconsideration.

I should note also that status-proposed means we're waiting to see if there's community support for a feature, in terms of votes. Whereas status-evaluate means it's in the system, has been highlighted as a community priority on our Kanban board, and is under active consideration. (i.e., we recognize the merits but now just need the resources.) – Rich Armstrong Oct 26 2010 at 14:18

The best I know of is to look at all questions tagged "feature-request", but I agree that a better method would be appreciated by the community. For example, having a way to filter out the feature requests that have already been implemented would be a big first step (unless there already is a way to do this?)

Chances are, now that this is the official support/documentation place, a lot more people are viewing questions than before, and many of them likely haven't seen some of the older requests, but would like to add their support to the ones they like.
