I'd like to install Fogbugz in our DR environment. This essentially requires that I install Fogbugz on a second (Windows) server and point it to the existing SQL(2008) database (in a disaster scenario our DR database appears to clients as if it was the prod database). Once the install is complete, I will shutdown the DR fogbugz website and windows services and turn them on in the case I ever needed them in a disaster scenario.

I attempted to install fogbugz on the DR server, and it was going well until Fogbugz tried to grant the network userid access to the existing fogbugz database. It bombed out saying that the existing user already exists in the fogbugz database so it can't be added. The installation then rolls back completely.

Is there a way that I can get this done?

Thanks

You could try this. Mike -- let the FogBugz install complete by allowing it to create a new database (which you won't really use). Once the install has completed successfully, you should be able to point FogBugz on your DR server to your original database.

There may be issues with running multiple FogBugz instances, even for a short time, against the same data so you should probably call or email Fog Creek Support before trying this.

The only wrinkle here is that there should only ever be one FogBugz Maintenance Service running among the two boxes. And you'll need to install your licenses for each of them, but otherwise, this should work fine. – Rich Armstrong Oct 19 2010 at 15:38
