We're running Version 7.0.30 (DB 713, Build 929) if that makes a difference.

There was a subcase, that I completed and marked as such. Later, a issue was found with the solution, so I re-marked it as "Active" while I worked on it.

The text on the subcase in question is the grey of a closed case, and the entire case is folded by default every time I refresh the page.

Update:

New screenshot, same sort of issue: img15.imageshack.us/img15/6965/greya.png (Can't make this a hyperlink, as a 'new' user.)

What happened here was that Case 9220 had been marked as 'Resolved'. Later, I came across a bug with the solution, created a sub case, and reactivated the parent case as well. As you can see, it's grey despite being active (and matching the applied filter). Interestingly, this one doesn't fold by default - I'm guessing because the subcase has never been marked as resolved.

Don't worry, I consider it a low enough priority that I didn't really check on it either :) – mmaster Feb 9 2010 at 6:14

Cases become gray in outlines when they don't match the current filter. This can be because they're closed, but also because of any other filter criteria.

For instance, if you create cases 'a' and 'b' within the same project, and 'c' in a different project, where 'b' and 'c' are children of 'a', you'll see situations in which parts of this tree are displayed, but others are grayed out.

The search "orderby:project" would expose this particular situation. In the results area dedicated to 'c's project, 'a' will be visible and gray. In the results area dedicated to 'a' and 'b's project, 'c' will either be gray, or be denoted by a "some subcases don't match this filter" note which can be clicked on to expose 'c'.

Note that all of the above comments apply to 'outline' view, not 'flat' view.

Does that explain the behavior you're seeing?

Update: There's another scenario which I neglected in my first answer. Duplicated cases will be grayed. For instance, if I have a case of priority 1 with a child case of priority 2, both cases matching a given filter, and I'm sorting that filter by priority, I will experience:

  1. In its proper location in the priority-1 list, the parent case will be present, but its child will be grayed (and likely not expanded)
  2. In its proper location in the priority-2 list, the child case will be present, but its parent will be grayed.

This enforces the behavior that a case matching a filter will be displayed (non-grayed) exactly once in its proper location, and any duplicates will be gray.

I don't think so, I just had the issue again, and the case clearly met the conditions of the filter. – mmaster Feb 9 2010 at 6:12
Since initially answering your question, I've learned more about the behavior. Perhaps my updated answer will help ;-) – Jude Allred Feb 12 2010 at 18:15

Check this post out. Could it be the same thing? http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/1895/bug-cases-matching-filters-are-grayed-out-as-not-matching-search
