When I signed up for FogBugz Student & Startup Edition, I was told that it was free for up to two users for as long as I wanted to use it. Now I want to add a third user and I have to start paying for all three, even the original two users! That seems like a big leap!

It is a big jump to go from paying nothing to paying for all three users when you think of that third user as "just one more."

Student and Startup Edition is intended to be a way to try FogBugz while you're small, rather than a two-user discount on FogBugz On Demand. The 45-day free trial with unlimited users is constrained by how long you can use it. Student and Startup Edition is constrained by how many people can use it.

I know that seems like a logical distinction, but in the real world when you're trying to bootstrap (ala 37Signals) from nothing, that is a big leap. While I'm certain you don't think of yourselves as competing in the same marketspace, I am, literally right now, considering dropping the mid-level 37 Signals Basecamp in favor of FB on demand (w/ Kiln). Even though they are theoretically designed to do different things, for me, I am used to working in FB in my day gig and would rather do that than BC a price break (or at least a free administrative user like the installed version would help). – Jay Stevens Jun 13 2010 at 13:13
