After we began rolling out FogBugz 8 to our users, I noticed a lot of feedback from users saying they were excited by the "new" filtering and sorting options that were available.

This was interesting to me, because FogBugz 8 didn't add these "new" features; it just made some existing features a little more discoverable.

That got me wondering...

What other features of FogBugz may not be easily discoverable by its users?

.. or, to put it another way,

What features of FogBugz, when demonstrated to others, get the response "I never knew you could do that!"

Here's some that I've come up with so far; these have been available since at least FogBugz 7.3, but a lot of users don't realize it:

  • You can search for bug titles when entering parent/sub/duplicate cases
  • You can use search axes in searches, and searches can be negated
  • If you put a case number in the search box, it will take you directly to the case
  • You can sort your case list by clicking on column headers (and the columns are resizable)
  • That there are keyboard shortcuts
  • The hovering over a case link will give you a summary popup
  • That FogBugz dropdowns support sub-string matching (e.g. "ple" will match "please", but also "apple")
  • If you display the "estimate" column in a case list, clicking on it will give you a popup to enter a new estimate
  • The case view, and the side panel of the case view are resizable

(I realize that this question is somewhat similar to to another one, but that one hasn't gotten a lot of response.)

Adding a search to a filter is by far my favorite. It allows you to filter for, say, cases assigned to two different people, or, with a negative search, to ignore just a subset of a filter's results.

I also really like color:blue. FogBugz manages the color of the links in its pages so that cases and wiki pages that have changed since you last looked at them become blue, like unvisited links do in your browser. Once you've visited them, they become purple. It's great to have a list where, when you look at the items in the list, they drop off.

Search for project:"Inbox" color:"blue" and start clicking on cases. Eventually the list will be empty.

I prefer show:unread. – Michel de Ruiter Sep 21 2010 at 9:52
Well, sure, if you want something that "makes sense" then I suppose show:unread works. :P – Rich Armstrong Sep 21 2010 at 14:16

Dragging and dropping attachments. When you click "Attach file", and you are running supported browser, maybe small hint "You can drag&drop files here" would be useful. Now, hint is only displayed after you start D&D operation.
