It would be nice if FogBugz could get rid of the antiquated form field upload for case attachments and use a Flash file uploader to provide a progress bar. It's also possible to completely get around the max HTTP request size using Flash.

Of course if Flash is not installed or is blocked, it should degrade gracefully to the old uploader.

Just like gmail attachments. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10172894-2.html

This also has the advantage that the files can begin uploading before the case is submitted, while the user is still typing out the case (if they choose to attach the files first). This can save a lot of time.

Case filed. We like the Gmail uploader, too!

I would suggest looking at Plupload, we use it exclusively now and it has some amazing features. http://plupload.com/

Plupload sure makes it easy to work with different types of upload-engine and gracefully degrade between them based on what the user supports. – BurningIce Nov 2 2010 at 18:18

I'm not familiar with the Gmail uploader (probably the only person on the planet!) but in case helpful: looking at that link it is similar to what Wordpress use (and possibly is used by YouTube too), from this open source offering:

swfupload is decent, but it's also possible to bypass the max file size limitation with Flash by splitting up the file and sending in pieces, reassembling on the server. swfupload doesn't support this and since many people have requested being able to upload very large files to FogBugz, it would be a good feature to have. – Samuel Neff Sep 20 2010 at 1:53

A progress bar would b great, but I wouldn't want one if it meant using flash!

You don't need Flash. You can do it with CSS and JS, both the progress bar and the click-to-open Open File dialog box. Right now it takes two clicks to attach a file. We have this in our own internal website, so I know it can be done ;)
