What plans do you have with Discussion Forum feature of FogBugz? If I understand correctly, you plan to eventually stop using it yourself and replace it with stackexchange, right? If so, do you also plan to stop adding new features to discussion forum? There are lot of reasonable requests to add on FogBugz Technical Support forum, and I wonder whether you plan to implement some of them eventually, or you leave forum as is and focus on other parts of FogBugz. Thank you!

This is a tough question. Discussion Groups <> StackExchange. No one here is calling for the death of Discussion Groups, but no one's charging ahead with improving them either. Discussion Groups are also free; StackExchange probably not. We wouldn't discontinue support for a free product and force people to go onto a product they'd have to pay for. We tried to give Discussion Groups some love for 7. For instance, we tried to figure out how tagging would work, but the design issues got too thorny. Funnily, no one has pointed out that wikis and cases have tags, but discussions do not. Attachments are a big request, but the possibility for exploitation as an image-hosting and file-sharing site would probably preclude us offering that as a core feature, but as a plug-in. What are some other requests? |

Rich asked for "some other requests" for enhancements to the Discussion Groups. I can think of one. How about a little rich text formatting? The little bit that these SE sites offer would be a good start (bold, italic, hyperlinks, bullet lists, etc.). |

One more on that; The striking argument FOR survival of the discussion forum I find IS the integration with case tracking - unfortunately this integration so far is only for "regular FB users" not for community users - so it would be most reasonable to leverage that by providing the feature 2) of my above list, for this user story: A visitor (not logged-in) or community user (logged-in) would like to revisit and filter or search in the discussion group for (their) posts at any time and see whether the staff promise ".. opened a case for this" has born any fruit or moved the issue in any way, without staffers having to update any posts retrospect to report issues in related cases planned/resolved/obsolete, This is not to compete with regular case tracking of emailed cases or cases that are created for customers and then followed-up with email ticket URLs (so customers can track their cases from email links); rather then instead to address cases that staff creates from discussion posts into an internal development project (i.e. bug tracker), which cases are not supposed to be directly exposed to customers with public ticket URLs. I am working with John Fuex, who is trying to get a plugin together for that - and I would hope to stirr up some exposure and support (VOTES - on this article ) - since it may also require or at least benefit from getting some API improvements considered by FB staff. |

Here is my plea for a few enhancements http://support.fogcreek.com/default.asp?fogbugz.4.102275.1 or summarized: 1) allow tags or custom fields in post - either extend tags feature to discuss posts, or allow actual custom fields, allowing preconfigured drop down list selections (.i.e. Software version, Product, .. ) - display them in a right column next to the post - allow to filter or search by these 2) option to display spawned case(s) status / last mod / milestone - display a "status" box in right column that shows whether and with what status / last mod / milestone any case is related to this post 3) add posts last mod date and view counter to list view 4) rss of "my posts" (I opened or answered) |

I would love to see the sub-discussion (sub-forum) feature, so I can organize Discussions into different categories. |

I would suggest having nested comments forming threads in a given topic. |
