When I am working with someone via FogBugz, I typically separate their requests by case and communicate via email.

The problem is that they don't follow that same organization and I'll usually get replies from the LAST email I sent them that pertains to a separate case. Is there a way to move that email (BugEvent) to the correct case, without having to get your hands dirty with the DB?

Sorry, no. I can't even think of a better workaround than berating the other party. :(

This is almost within the realm of what Case Event Edit plugin could do, but it's not actually possible given the current plugin interfaces. I'll create a case to consider improving the situation.

If you do tweak the database, take care to update references from Bug.ixLatestBugEvent as well.

Would love to have this feature! – Brett Veenstra Sep 11 2010 at 20:07
If nothing else, the Case Event Edit plugin could at least allow hiding of the unruly event – cdeszaq Sep 13 2010 at 12:47
thanks very much ted. removing errorneous incoming mails had been the #1 use case everybody wanted to do with Case Event Edit. We are using FB_ScratchOut to remove incoming emails, but this leaves to much garbage in the case event history (e.g. the attachments are still visible). – sbn Jan 21 2011 at 12:49

What I usually do in this type of situation is to forward the message from the wrong case to the right one. e.g. something for case 123 was sent to case 456, so I hit forward on it, select "correspondent" in the From drop-down, put the fogbugz email address in the To field and change the case number in the subject from 456 to 123. Sadly I can't remove that email from case 456, so I just add an edit that says what I did.

This is also what I do now. It would be nice if the existing 'edit comment' feature worked with emails (e.g. maybe an email could be 'hidden', or 'rolled-up' into the 'an email was hidden' edit entry). – Kenny Evitt Oct 8 2010 at 17:20
I do the same thing, and recently added a BugMonkey script to augment the FB_ScratchOut plugin to better handle scratching-out emails: fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/59/… – Dave Cross Nov 4 at 22:06
