Hi,

we are making decision whether to continue using FogBugz on-demand or to switch to standalone version.

  1. Are there any problems with standalone version? We have Windows Server 2008 64-bit, 8Gb of RAM and can install MS SQL Server 2008. Standalone version costs less money for licenses. Will there be any problems comparing to on-demand version?

  2. Can we switch to FB8 if we buy standalone version of FB7?

There are no side-effects to switching. Licensed FogBugz will function the same way as your FogBugz On Demand website. A couple of key differences:

  • You'll be responsible for maintaining your FogBugz website and database (backups, upgrades, security, etc.)
  • You can install any plugin you'd like
  • You can modify the source code

You'll be eligible to upgrade to FogBugz 8 as long as you have an up-to-date maintenance contract.

Thanks for answer! Just some more questions. Will we be able to use FogBugz 8 beta? Is installation and maintaining process simple and straightforward enough? I mean does everything we need is to download installer, run it and in a few moments we have working FogBugz instance (assuming we already have SQL Server running)? And does restoring from backup requires to point to database or similar simple action? – Dmitry Lobanov Sep 10 2010 at 13:37
