I LOVE the new charting displays in the FogBugz-Generaly-Listy-Area of FogBugz 8. This is currently semi-useful to my company, but could become incredibly useful to us (and I imagine for everyone).

Immediately I went to change the default "broken down by" from "Priority" to my custom field called "Customer Name".

Unfortunately for me - the list that I can group by for the charts are static. We currently have 142 open tickets from our 81 clients (and that number is growing). We have a total of about 3,800 tickets.

If I could see a break down by "Client Name" - I would buy that developer (or team of developers) a 6-pack of their choice of beer (though Rob mentioned that some of you brew your own).

So, to restate more clearly - The ability to group the new amazing charting display by any field - especially (for our needs) a "Custom Field" would be an incredible tool.

Next, I'll ask to have these beautiful charts available through the API - but I'll open a separate item for that ;)

EDIT: It seems that the good folks at Fog Creek have implemented this feature! It looks so beautiful :)

Even to just be able to break down by only the discrete fields would be a big improvement. Tags would also be a useful breakdown and could be a functional stop-gap if dealing with custom fields is too hard. – cdeszaq Aug 12 2010 at 12:52

Good news! You gave us a great idea (allow breakdowns on custom fields)... so we implemented it.

The CustomFieldsBreakdown plugin, which is shipping with FogBugz, creates breakdowns from your custom fields. This allows you to have things like Bar Charts that are broken down by Customer Name.

As always, we really appreciate getting these kinds of feedback; it helps us create a more useful product.

Is it me? I can not find this plugin and it looks like something I sure could use. – basuitdelft Feb 11 2011 at 10:20
@basuitdelft: See fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/4644 for an explanation of how to get to the charting features – Daniel LeCheminant Feb 11 2011 at 12:25
Yes but you can not select a custom fields in the breakdown dropdown. I thought the plugin as described above would allow this and I do not see this. – basuitdelft Feb 11 2011 at 14:45
You can't breakdown for custom fields with text values, but for dropdowns, true/false and numeric ones it ought to work. – Daniel LeCheminant Feb 11 2011 at 17:01
Strange, we made a numeric customfield (storypoints) but it does not appear in the list when I press 'Add breakdown'. What can be the reason for this? – basuitdelft Feb 17 2011 at 8:29
