I've been using FogBugz authentication for a while, but now I want to switch to using LDAP (either Active Directory or some other solution). What should I do?

First, switch your authentication mode in FogBugz:

  1. Go to Admin -> Site Configuration -> Authentication and select the appropriate tab (Active Directory or LDAP)
  2. Enter the settings based on your LDAP configuration.
  3. Save your changes.

At this point, FogBugz will prompt you for your LDAP credentials and will test the connection to make sure the settings you entered are valid and working. If this test passes, you're done with setup! If not, the site will revert back to using FogBugz authentication.

When your users try to login to FogBugz, they should now use their LDAP credentials. As long as the user's full name and email address in the LDAP directory match what's stored in FogBugz, the two accounts will be associated.

For brand new users, if you checked "Allow LDAP to create new accounts automatically," a new FogBugz user will be created the first time they login with their LDAP info. If you did not check this option, you'll need to manually create the FogBugz user (which matches their LDAP user) before they can login.

If you ever want to switch back, read this.

I don't see this in my Admin section. Is this only for self-hosted FogBugz? – nategood Oct 24 at 20:58
