As the main processor of incoming cases, I would like to "mute" or otherwise gray out fields according to project, so that when I'm tabbing through Project-Area-Milestone-etc, I skip right over unnecessary fields.

For instance, in our IT department, by policy, we never move cases to another project, and we allow FB to take care of the status of the case at all times.
Therefore, when sorting a new case, it would be good not to have to press the tab button 8 times in total to move through to the "OK" button, but only 6 times (skipping over Project and Status).

Hmm .... could this be implemented with a repurposing of the "Add Fields" feature?

Cheers and thanks, Justine

I have opened a new case for your request to allow fields to be disabled on a per-project basis. Please up-vote this question to show your support.

For now, you can use the javascript solution posted here. Just modify it to look at the ixProject value instead of the ixCategory.

I'm guessing (as in, haven't tried it but I think it will work) that you could alter the tab-ordering of the fields with Bugmonkey JavaScript. That doesn't require a plugin, and gives you the functionality you are looking for.

However, if an extra couple of key-presses (especially in a known order) really that much extra effort? If it required moving your mouse, yes I could see that being irritating, but otherwise, a few extra key-presses seems like a really, really minimal challenge.

Note: If you are physically handicapped please excuse my rudeness...I fully respect the difficulties associated with any kind of impairment.

It's true, my usecase is terribly weak :) Being able to mute fields from the tab order is a nice way to customise the FB interface for different departments. That's basically what I was getting at. – Justine Jul 29 2010 at 16:03
