When I forward emails into FogBugz from Mail.app (Apple Mail) on my Mac, FogBugz sets the correspondent to my email address instead of recognizing that the message is a forward and setting the correspondent to the original sender's email address.

I disagree that this is a bug. At least, it's not for us.

We use the Forward function in Apple Mail when we want the Forwarder to be the correspondent of the case. IE a developer has an issue he wants to log but doesn't want the originator to be the correspondent on the case.

We use a feature in mail called "Redirect" when we want the correspondent to be the emailer and not the developer who is redirecting. In this instance the originator is the correspondent and also receives the appropriate notification emails that are set for that mailbox.

This distinction is important to our process. We would need to go back to the drawing board if this were to change.

The "bug" should have been fixed, but then again I checked in the fix and I'm just a lowly support tech ;) If you hit forward and don't type anything before the "Begin forwarded message" text, FogBugz should set the correspondent to the original sender. If you put anything before the quoted message, FogBugz sets you as the correspondent. That said, I love "Redirect" in Mail.app and wish it existed in others clients! :) – adambox May 12 2011 at 13:21

This is a bug and should be fixed. A workaround for forwards from mail clients that don't use one of the below formats is to remove all text, including "Begin forwarded message:" so that your forward starts with "> From:"

FogBugz looks only for these lines before a quoted reply to determine if it's a forward:

-----Original Message-----

---------- Forwarded message ----------

----- Forwarded by

From:

> From:

It's not picking up Apple Mail's

Begin forwarded message:
