I am looking at implementing fb for my company and would like to know what skill sets I should be looking for in an Administrator? What skill set(s) should the ideal candidate possess? The application looks very flexible, however, it is evident that we will need to utilize some of the plugins and extras.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Honest, it's easy. I am administrator of a small (40 - 50) FB installation, and the only skill I needed was to be able to read the online help.

Installation (at least of the Windows version) is dead easy, and deploying plugins is simply a matter of downloading them, and then navigating to the Plugin page, and clicking on the Upload Plugin link.

It probably helps to know a little about whichever platform you intend to deploy on (IIS/Apache/etc) and the underlying database, but I've been able to get away with the bare minimum - I still know very little about either.

If you are planning to migrate to FogBugz, it's a different story, but essentially any scripting language which can read the old data and write XML to the FB server will do the trick.

Excellent answer! I couldn't agree more. – Rob Sobers Jul 2 2010 at 14:20
p.s. I should state that I like FogBugz and have learnt quite a bit about it since becoming administrator of an installation, not that I knew anything about FogBugz before assuming my administrative duties. I picked up most of what I know from figuring out how to import from our previous defect tracking system. – James McLeod Jul 3 2010 at 1:26
