I am attempting to upgrade our 7.2.18 FogBugz to 7.3.1 and getting some errors:

"The IIS configuration file is unavailable. Another application is probably using it." We have another website installed on the same server, so I have stopped the default website through IIS which gets me past this error.

At the next stage, the database upgrade fails and I get directed to do this manually.

I say OK to that, but then I get "FogBugz Setup was unable to create the Maintenance Service: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid for the account name specified".

Where do I find the account details that it is trying to use?

I just tried doing a manual install of the Maintenance Service as it is not appearing in the Services list. I'm now getting the error "You must supply a valid username and password". I have tested the account I am using (local account) and the password is correct. I tried adding it as a local admin but it still didn't work. – Jenny Jun 15 2010 at 8:28

This is now resolved.

I want to recap your situation here in case anyone else encounters it.

In general, when you encounter the error "The IIS configuration file is unavailable" (which tends to happen with IIS 7.5), the FogBugz installer should roll back changes. Then, if you do the following:

  • iisreset /stop
  • Run the FogBugz installer to completion
  • iisreset /start
  • Hit the FogBugz URL and it will upgrade the database

You should be good to go.

However, in your particular case, the first time you hit the IIS config file lock error, the installer did not roll back properly, leaving the maintenance service (of all things) in a state which we couldn't wiggle out of.

After rebuilding the machine and re-installing FogBugz, everything is now working.

Update:

Another customer had this problem installing FogBugz on Windows Server 2008. He was logged in as the domain administrator, but had to right click the FogBugz installer and choose "Run as Administrator" to get past this error.

I am having the very same issue, updateing 7.1.10 to 7.2.10. the iisreset /stop did not work for me, i am still getting the following messages when trying to update my existing FogBugz-Installation:

  • The account could not be granted certain user rights that it needs (Logon as a service, Logon interactive, Adjust memory quotas for a process, replace a process level token). (No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.)
  • FogBugz Setup was unable to create the Maintenance service: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid for the account name specified.
  • FogBugz Setup was unable to open the Maintenance Service to start it. The specified service does not exist as an istalled service.

I then return to the installer, but i can only cancel out of the whole thing. Is there any way to still upgrade to 7.2.10?

Sounds more like a permissions problem to me - are you logged into the server with an local admin account? – Jenny Jul 12 2010 at 2:21
Yes, i am logged in as the computer's administrator. As far as I remember, I have been approaching this update in the same way i did previous updates. – Claudius Jul 12 2010 at 8:47
Not sure then, I think you'd be better off contacting FogBugz support directly. I ended up backing up my database, uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling, then restoring my database over the top. – Jenny Jul 12 2010 at 8:53
