Currently we have speadsheets for different areas of our team, which are basically used to show when we have gaps in resource, or when we can schedule work in.

Although this is basic, it is quick and easy to see exactly who is working on what on what day via one screen.

I have used fogbugz in the past and I would like to bring it online at my new company.

Obviously it can handle bug/feature tracking, but I would like it to be able to also deal with resourcing.

Does ebs/ebs 2 give me the control to replace those spreadsheets, yet still have just as simple an overview on each person in the company (either by person, project or for all projects).

We are also planning on using the api to pull in timesheet data from our main time tracking system "Harvest" to keep our time sheeting centralised.

For others with this question, here is what I emailed Chris:

You can see how much work each developer has on his/her plate in the developer ship date report. For the selected milestone(s), it will show you when each developer will be done so you know where to assign new cases.

You can also get the date a given percentage of a milestone will be completed with the XML API.

If you don't want to factor in EBS adjustments, you can get the list of cases in the milestone and request the hrsCurrEst and hrsElapsed columns. You will then have the data you need to calculate where you are in the schedule.

Does the per-developer ship date report take into account multiple projects, or does it only care about the current one? (in fact, that's a general question about EBS as well) – cdeszaq Jul 23 2010 at 13:52
all of EBS should be using per-project percent times to figure out how to spread out the estimated hours over your working schedule. e.g. if you set your % time on the Widget Project to 100% and EBS says you'll be done in 2.5 weeks, setting it to 25% cause it to predict you'll be done in 10 weeks. – adambox Aug 6 2010 at 16:47
