We rely heavily on email notifications sent out when a case is initially opened, as frequently support staff isn't sitting at their desk where opening the case is easy to do.

We capture some information, such as user's phone number and name in custom fields (so it's always easy to find at a glance when looking at a case in fogbugz.) As far as I know there is no way of modifying the notification emails (other than modifying the fogbugz source.)

One possible solution I thought of was to append those two fields to the initial case entry via a plugin. After poking around the API, I can't seem to find any way of determining if the Custom Fields plugin is installed... and determine what custom fields exist (so I can make this configurable instead of hard coded for our custom fields.)

Is there a way of confirming the Custom Fields plugin is installed via Plugin API, and obtain a list of the custom fields that are defined?

Update

Accessing Custom Fields from your plugin is implemented. The case below is for allowing Custom Fields to modify the notification email. -Fog Creek

  1. Plugins can access other installed plugins via the CAllPluginsApi as of FogBugz 8.0.

  2. Allowing custom fields to alter the content of notification emails seems like the right solution and something we should probably add.

I've opened case FC1905952 to consider adding this to the Custom Fields plugin. It would require a new interface to allow plugins to modify the notification emails – adambox Jun 8 2010 at 17:56
