We have 12 Inactive user accounts which continue to appear in any of the 'user' filter options, e.g. 'Assigned Users'. When cases are closed they are 'Assigned To = CLOSED' and for Open cases they cannot be assigned to an Inactive user thus there is no need for them to appear as a filter. Is there a way to remove or hide them from the 'Assigned To' filter options?

Edit: I'm changing this to a feature request. I find Adam's suggestion of reactivating all those inactive users and removing all their permissions too inconvenient. What if I have hundreds of inactive users? Plus, I'm an admin and it wouldn't do me any good. I'd still see them in those lists.

I understand that there will be times when you want access to those inactive users, but most of the time they're just clutter. Perhaps you could have a more... link that will display them if you need them?

UPDATE : This is forthcoming in 8.5.

I hope you don't mind that I changed you question to a feature request. I too would like to see those inactive users removed from filter lists. – Greg Saven Jul 27 2010 at 15:46
A more link would make sense, and not add much overhead for any user that wants the current functionality +1 for that solution – cdeszaq Jul 27 2010 at 15:54
This is now my top request. There's probably no UI element you interact with more than the Assigned To dropdown. It should be as consistent as possible across the entire application. – Rich Armstrong Feb 7 2011 at 15:44
Absolutely. My top request as well. – Aaron Jan 14 at 14:17

Inactive users are still shown in filter dropdowns because cases could still be assigned to them. If you don't want them to show up, you can make sure they don't have permissions on any project. You will need to reactivate the user, make the changes, then deactivate them again. Site Admins will still see the user, but other users shouldn't.

We have a case open now to look into changing this behavior.

Thanks for the response but unfortunately the above approach didn't work. Additionally, found that when using the 'Custom Fields Plug-In' inactive users are listed as well. But unlike the normal filter they are in Alpha order & thus intermingled w/ active users. At least the 'Assigned To' filter puts the inactive users at the bottom. – jasondaiger Jun 10 2010 at 15:02
Do they show up for all users or only for site admins? They will always show for site admins, who have permissions on all groups – adambox Jun 18 2010 at 17:05
"case FC1915335"? Are you considering adding the ability to hide those inactive users, or is that related to the problem Jason described? If the former, it has my vote. I'd appreciate a means to hide inactive users from filter lists (I made Jason's question a feature request). – Greg Saven Jul 27 2010 at 15:50
that case # was for investigating this issue. I have updated the question above with the feature request case. please up-vote the question to show your support for seeing it implemented. – adambox Jul 27 2010 at 16:59
