Is there a way to both resolve and close a case in one operation? Code reviews have this feature, why not other cases?

I guess one could implement a customization to add a Resolve & Close button for everyone. – Michel de Ruiter Mar 30 2012 at 20:17

This option is available only if the submitter of the case is the one who resolves it (the logic presumably being that only that individual should be the one to declare a problem has been fixed).

Urgh. yet another reason to push my employer away from this dog. – Travis Laborde Apr 27 2010 at 15:14
That's a rather uncivil way to express your disastisfaction. FogBugz is not for everyone, and doesn't solve all possible problems in the best way. But I've found it an extremely useful tool. I have trouble seeing how this could be a deal-breaker for anyone. – James McLeod Apr 27 2010 at 15:39
Having spent too many years studying Civil engineering, I know these things... That said, I agree this is sub-optimal and have voted up your question. – James McLeod Apr 27 2010 at 15:44
James, uncivil? I agree it was harsh, but... Certainly it wasn't directed at "you" or even at any "person." I'm having a really hard time with this product. Every one of its little "extra help" features seem to be the opposite of what I expect or want. I'm likely stuck with it, and hating it :( Thanks for your help and understanding though. – Travis Laborde Apr 28 2010 at 11:36

I hear you. But. To call software which has been developed by a group of people I feel are intelligent, capable, and dedicated a "dog" is unwarranted. The developers Fog Creek do not seem to be overly sensitive, defensive, or arrogant, and gladly accept constructive criticism, but your comment will not make anyone's day. – James McLeod Apr 28 2010 at 14:11

I understand the the "opener can be the only person to declare a case closed" logic. But consider my team's scenario. We're a small group of five people, so we all know that a case can be closed, without a doubt, even though we may not have necessarily be the one to open it (and we open cases for each other all the time). We're all admins, so if we want to resolve and close a case, we have to "Resolve" it, then go back into the case to "Close" it (compared to "Resolve & Close" if we opened it).

I would suggest this be changed to "if you have permissions to both 'resolve' and 'close' a case, then show the 'Resolve & Close' button. Otherwise you're just creating an extra step.
