I use FogBugz wiki for writing functional specifications. Most times, I upload images of wireframes and concept designs into the page.
But I keep the images themselves (and the files I use to generate them like Visio files) locally on my computer so I can change them in case a modification is needed.
It would be great to be able to store those files and resources in the same place as the specs and the project data.
SharePoint offers a document library that is easy to use and offer versioning. Maybe FogBugz can offer the same functionality.

You can attach any file type to a wiki article. Would it make sense to upload the documents to the article? That would keep them associated with the place where they are used.

You could also put them in version control using the built-in integration, or with Kiln. The only drawback would be that the repository could get quite large if the files are binary (not text).

Attaching files to Wiki articles is what I do now, but this lacks versioning that a document library could provide. I think that a document library is something to consider as FogBugz evolves. Thanks for the suggestion about using Kiln. – Amr Apr 17 2010 at 18:07
Thanks for clarifying that for me. I don't think a document library is a likely addition as it may be redundant given the tight integration with Kiln (which is offered at a significant discount when bundled with FogBugz). Let us know how Kiln meets your needs! fogcreek.com/Kiln/Details.html#forYourServer – adambox Apr 19 2010 at 13:47
@adambox The difficulty with using Kiln as a general document repository is that it doesn't deal well with large binary files due to the way Hg works. SVN would work well as a document repo however. Is there a way to use Kiln, as well as SVN and have them both tie in to FB? (eg. Kiln for source and development things, and then SVN as the document repo) – cdeszaq May 13 2010 at 15:49
@cdeszaq you can still setup SVN repos in Admin -> Source Control if you want to use one for binary files. We also do plan to look into potential ways to deal with binary files better (currently your clone repo has the FULL file for EVERY revision. that's one thing that could change to improve things). Also make sure to up-vote the question here if you're interested. Note that a user-made plugin is most likely to get this feature in. Let us know if you want to give it a shot and have any plugin-dev Qs. – adambox May 14 2010 at 11:36
update: for Kiln, better binary handling is coming in a future release via the bfiles extension mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/BfilesExtension – adambox Jul 28 2010 at 14:25

A document library sounds like a useful addition to FogBugz. We have a case open to consider it, but I think it would be best implemented as a plugin. Take a look at this post to learn how to get started with plugin development.

Feel free to up-vote the question here if this would help you, and add your requirements to the question as well.

mongodb.org might be a good technology to build the document library on. – haiku Jul 13 2010 at 1:44
