I have 14 different orders for FogBugz licenses and 6 for maintenance only. When I move my server, I have to reinstall all the licenses because the machine ID doesn't match the new server.

How do I get the list of order numbers? Do I have to install the maintenance ones or just licenses? Can this be streamlined?

Here's the current process. This usually only needs to be done when you move servers. If you're just installing new licenses, you only have to enter the new order # and email address.

  • You can get your list of order numbers at your status page. Log in with one order # and email address.
  • From there, just use the ones that say "FogBugz." The ones which are only "Maintenance" do not need to be installed.

We have a case open to evaluate streamlining this process in the future (e.g. only asking for one email address and order number and fetching the rest automatically).

You have a case open to evaluate streamlining this process? I know moves to new servers tend to only occur every 5 years or so, but it really is an unnecessary inconvenience. The email/order number from the most recent purchase tells you all you need to know. – Greg Saven Feb 26 2010 at 18:37
Rest assured this feature definitely has a place in our long-term development schedule, and we track user requests for functionality carefully. As a FogBugz user, you definitely know that every software release is a compromise between the ideal of making users happy and the realities of limited time and resources. We hate to be in the position of making promises that we later find out we can't keep, so we can't give any guidance on when this feature request might be implemented, hence the "status-evaluate" tag. – adambox Mar 1 2010 at 16:03
