From the README file in the FogBugz installation directory:

FogBugz can also be installed without root. It will run as the user performing the install. This can be convenient for quick installs or to try things out on your own if you are not the system administrator. On the downside, root privilege is necessary to make certain modifications to the system startup scripts. These changes are not required, you will just have to start FogBugz manually if the system is rebooted.

I did a quick test but couldn't get all the way through on my personal site's webhost because they block port 7066 and technically don't allow me to install apps.

When you run install.sh without root privileges, it will detect this and modify the install process to accommodate. Some basic things you should expect:

  • If the distribution of linux you are running is not recognized, the installer will instruct you to contact support.
  • You will need to specify that fogbugz run as your user.
  • You may need to create the mysql database and user before running the installer.
  • You may need to name your database in a special way, e.g. on my host, all my databases must be prefixed with my username, so "fogbugz" would not be allowed.
  • You may have to work with your host to
    • Setup the proxypass from the main httpd to FogBugz's httpd server
    • Open port 7066 for incoming http requests, if you cannot setup the proxypass.

If you have trouble with the process, please contact us for assistance.
