I still want to use FogBugz, but without the whole "monetary transaction" aspect. Are there any ways for students, teachers, or startups to get free access to FogBugz?

Yes.

You have a few options, all of which apply to both FogBugz and Kiln.

In order of simplicity:

  1. Everyone is entitled to a full-featured 45-day free trial. If you need more time to properly evaluate FogBugz, let us know.

  2. The 2-User Student and Startup Edition is free, never expires, and there's no application process. Though intended for students and startups, anyone may use this. If you already have a FogBugz On Demand account, you can convert it to the Student and Startup edition.

  3. If you're a Y-Combinator Startup, we'll hook you up.

  4. If the above options aren't sufficient, but you still really aren't into the whole monetary transaction thing, then ask yourself if you're a:

    • Student desiring FogBugz for team projects, clubs, or other academic activities.
    • Startup who is peeved that they didn't make the cut from #3, similar to a Y-Combinator startup, and have enthusiasm related to using our technologies.
    • Teacher (or Professor) who wants to teach their students about issue tracking, peer review, project management, etc., using our technologies.

If any of those apply to you, send us an email, explain how you meet the preceding criteria, give us a link to your FogBugz On Demand account, and we'll make it free for a year. If you need more time than that, you can ask again next year. If your needs are met by the 2-User Student and Startup Edition, you don't need to email us. We'll just refer you to that.
