We start a project every time we receive one.

This has led to a significant amount of project being opened over time, and some of them have now been closed - as in the project has been completed, and is no longer needed for viewing purposes.

How would I hide the project so it no longer displays in the Reports section, or the "Project" dropdown box, yet retain the cases created in that project during searches?

Even if you delete a project, search results will still show cases that were assigned to it. And you can always undelete a project later.

Just to be clear - this also addresses your concern regarding the Reports section and "Project" dropdown box. "Deleted" projects won't show up there. – Marc Moroz Feb 12 2010 at 21:49
This does exactly what I wanted - thanks for the help! – Mike Fiedler Feb 13 2010 at 14:59

One method is to create a Group that only a few people have access too. You could call it "Archive" or something similar. Transfer the projects to that group. Now, those projects drop off of everyone's list. The only ones that see them are the few given access to that group.

I'd want the project's cases still searchable, just not assignable - like with Milestones. And disappear from Reports. – Mike Fiedler Feb 11 2010 at 23:30
