Can anyone please confirm if there is a limit on the number of pop3 mailboxes which can be configured for use with a FogBugz on demand account?

Similarly, are there any additional costs for using multiple pop3 mailboxes with a FogBugz on demand account?

We're looking at changing the way we handle our support to use different emails (with separate mailboxes) for different products/websites that we provide. We want to avoid getting hit by a large charge in the future if we ended up with several dozen mailboxes.
I am aware that we could just alias all addresses to a mailbox whic is retrieved into the inbox and train auto sorting to put them in different areas but we feel that having each email address default to separate projects will suit us better.

Seriously? No one from FogCreek can answer this? – Matt Lacey Feb 9 2010 at 9:08

There are no set limits on the number of POP3 accounts you can have, but you have to host them yourself. We only provide one built-in POP3 account for FogBugz On Demand.

I would recommend different mailboxes rather than aliasing, if it makes sense, as that gives you finer control over the auto-responses, etc.

Thanks Rich. Hosting them isn't a problem. I'm trying to persuade my boss to move away from aliases because of the problems they were causing but he wouldn't agree until we had confirmation that we wouldn't run into some upper limit or suddenly get hit with an extra charge. – Matt Lacey Feb 11 2010 at 8:44

We have 5 different mailboxes right now that we use and everything seems to be fine. The only reason I can think of for limiting the number of mailboxes would be to reduce the load from checking each one very often. The default time to check a mailbox is every 15 seconds, so my guess is that, if the load from a large number of mailboxes too high, you will just need to back off the query interval for some of them.
