Spell checking as-you-type doesn't seem to work in the wiki editor for all browsers. How do I make it work for mine?

Browser-based spell-checking as-you-type works in the FogBugz wiki editor in:

  • Mac
    • Safari
    • Google Chrome
  • Windows
    • Safari
    • Google Chrome
    • Firefox (with a tweak)

On Safari on the Mac, just right (or control) click in the editor and choose "Check Spelling While Typing". It should remember this setting between sessions.

On Chrome for Mac and Windows, spell-checking is on by default. Just edit away!

On Firefox (Windows but not Mac), which allows our editor to replace the OS context menu with the FogBugz menu, you have to change a setting to have access to the OS context menu, which allows you to turn on spell-checking:

In Firefox, go to Tools -> Options. In the Content tab, next to "Enable Javascript", click Advanced and uncheck "Disable or replace context menus". This will allow you to right-click and turn on spell checking as you type. You will have to right-click and turn on spell checking each time you edit an article.

If you need to use the FogBugz context menu, you can access it by right clicking, and then hitting escape.

Is that really the best you can do for FireFox? Why does spell-check-as-you-type work out of the box for all other websites, but not for FogBugz? The "tweak" is pretty unreasonable - I don't want to disable context menus and even if I did, I most definitely would not remember to right-click and turn on spell check every single time I edit a wiki page! – danielm Mar 4 2010 at 17:50
I second the above comment. Is there a bug in FireFox Bugzilla about this? – rjmunro Apr 2 at 11:47
