I'm getting this error about some old licenses that I was attempting to install:

"Licenses are bound to a particular computer when you install them"

The computers those licenses were bound to don't exist anymore, and I'd like to reset them somehow.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Kirk

You can remove them in the database if you wish to do so. However, the message is informative, you can re-activate the licenses using the order number and e-mail address at any time on the new machine, that should get rid of your license problem.

What that message doesn't say is that licenses can be "bound" to multiple front-end computers. Basically, when we load a page, we check the machine name and SID and see if that machine name is licensed. If it isn't you get a message. You can license multiple machines to the same install so as to do load balancing (so long as they're all pointed at the same database).

If there are old rows, don't worry about them. If they really bother you, go through the diagnostics. The Licenses step has a link to allow you to delete all rows from that table.

I've seen that message before, but I didn't take it as anything more than an advisory indication that I couldn't copy the database to a new computer without reimporting the licences. If the old licences don't show up as valid in the Licences screen, you'll have to talk to Fog Creek about releasing them from the old computer, but I've moved installations around quite a bit with impunity while settling on a final configuration.
