For new developers we use a fake distribution generated from the following velocities. It simulates a high degree of uncertainty and a moderate degree of pessimism in the new developer's estimation ability. These average out to around 2. So if you look at the burndown chart for a milestone with 40 hours estimated, without estimation history the chart will show values around 80 hours. As the new users estimated cases are resolved and closed, real estimates are filled in and we discard the default ones, starting with the top of the list and moving down. |
