this would really also apply to all of the other filter settings as well, How can you show all Cases that are NOT in projectX for example?

Use a negative search axis. You can add these to any filter by adding "Search for":

-assignedto:"bob"

-project:"foo"

-category:"feature"

-area:"undecided"

oh. I see, I was using the UI. it looks like then that this is not a situation where I can use the dropdowns.. – KevinDeus Oct 1 2009 at 18:46
Correct, filters are only used for finding cases in a specific project, category, area, or assigned to a specific user. Searches are more powerful, and can even be saved as a filter that will re-run that search. – Jacob Oct 1 2009 at 19:53
Correction, you can use the Filter, you just add a -assignedto:kevin search added to the filter. – Rich Armstrong Oct 1 2009 at 20:03
actually I tried that, and it showed all the cases not assigned and ignored the other filter entries. Perhaps I did something wrong? – KevinDeus Oct 2 2009 at 0:58
@KevinDeus, please email us at customer-service@fogcreek.com with the filter you're trying to run. That sounds like a bug. – Jacob Oct 2 2009 at 17:18
