How do I refine a listed grid view of cases based on the cases that I have selected and save it to a list of the chosen cases.

My Case:

  1. I am making a filter of possibly interesting cases based on the options in filter customization.
  2. In the grid view of the cases I can select cases with titles that I find interesting, but I am still not sure that these are the cases that I am interested in and the list is cluttered with many cases that I am not interested in.

  3. How can I refine the list I am shown to only include the cases I have chosen?

Another option might be to write a BugMonkey script that injects a new button onto the grid view page labelled something along the lines of "Create new filter from selected cases."

This button could then look for the case # of each of the selected cases and open a new window (or redirect the current window) for a search that includes only those cases (e.g. a search string that is a comma-separated list of case #'s with no spaces between them). Once the refined search page loads, you could click on the "Save filter" button to preserve this list of cases beyond your current session.

Note that other potentially useful search terms are described over here.

Awesome. I'll get the bugmonkey right away. Here's the list of bugmonkey scripts: fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/59/… – Nicolaj Schweitz Feb 16 2010 at 7:20

Starring the case is a quick way to get what you want. You don't have to edit the case and can do it directly from the filter.

  • When you see a case with a title you find interesting, just star it. (You can select the Star column under "Select Columns")
  • After you've gone through your first pass and have stars on the cases you have chosen, it's time to get rid of the clutter... To do this, use the same filter but add starredby:me to your search. This will bring up your refined list.

That'll do for now. However, I was looking for a more instantly gratifying solution. Using this method requires refining the current filter in some 5 clicks. I do recognise this answer, but I'll let it hang for a bit to see more answers tick in. Thanks. – Nicolaj Schweitz Feb 15 2010 at 9:50
