We have a lot of log files attached to our bug reports.

1. What would be the best way to extract the data from the attached files and put them into a Custom Field?
2. Will the custom field's content be searchable?
3. Would it have a severe impact on performance if fields are omitted when displaying a case? (~50 Kb per case) If so, is there a way to prevent that?

Would it not make sense to pull the data out into a bug event rather than a custom field? What is the particular appeal of putting this data into a custom field? Custom fields are not available to the XML API, so this would likely not be easy.
