We've got Fogbugz running on this configuration:

  • Fogbugz on Windows Server, running on a VMWare

  • Database on Linux MySQL, running on a second VMWare

It's running slower than we expect, most likely because we need to adjust the memory, etc of the vmwares.

Before we do that, are there any ways to turn on some reporting so that we can see which part of the system is slow (e.g. database, fogbugz process)?

It is possible to rebuild FogBugz with timing stats, but there is a large performance artifact that comes with generating them. If you want to try that, you can alter the build.bat script in your FogBugz install to build with wasabi.exe -fogbugztiming instead of wasabi.exe -fogbugz. That will insert timing graphs on every page.

I use JetBrains DotTrace for a low-artifact statistical profiler in FogBugz performance work, and they have a 10-day trial if you want to try that out.

All of that being said, the prime suspect would be database latency. Would it be possible to put the DB on the same VM as the FogBugz install?
