When I setup these milestones:

Prep Work (no date)
Coding (no date, depends on Prep Work)
Testing and Release (no date, depends on Coding)

and I then try to set a completion date for Testing and Release, FogBugz won't let me, complaining that it starts before a milestone which it depends upon.

What's going on?? Answer: FogBugz always assumes that milestones with dates come before ones with no dates.

Feature Request

If there are dependencies involved, as in my case, EBS should be smart about it and see that the one with a date must come after those without dates, and allow me to set it that way.

FogBugz search is quite powerful, but it has a bajillion axes I have to memorize. Auto-complete would be helpful, but I still need to know the axis names. An advanced search form that let the user fill in all of the available axis values would be a simple way to get more people embracing the awesome power of search.

Auto-sort is great, but sometimes you want to be able to filter messages the way you can in a mail client like Gmail. e.g.

Or take it a bit further and setup a syntax for setting more fields in a case other than just the area.

This feature request is for the ability to setup filtering rules based on the headers and body of an email along with actions to take:

Ignore message (don't create a case or an edit on an existing case
Set the area (overriding auto-sort)
Perform an action, e.g. resolve and close or assign to a specific user

Notify me when a case is updated while I'm viewing it

When you view the edit page for a case, if another user edits it and then you submit your changes, FogBugz warns you that the case has been changed and does't commit your edit. This is good to prevent some mistakes, but it would be much better if I was notified real-time when someone had made a change, while I'm viewing the case.

When you first create a user, you can choose to have FogBugz generate a password and ask the user to log in and change it. I want (as an administrator) to be able to cause the user to have to set their password again.

This lousy BugMonkey customization adds a link to the edit user page to ajaxily reset a user's password. Set it up to be on for admins and off for other users. It uses a terrible hack to prevent your current login cookie from being sent, so the post to the forgot password page is unauthenticated (as it needs to be). Make sure to set sUrl to your FogBugz URL with weird capitalization so the hack works.

Anyone with improvements to this script, please post them! :)

When FogBugz authenticates against an Active Directory server, it matches the user's email address to the AD mail field, and the full name to the name. Note: name is the name shown in the list of users, not the First, Last or Display Name shown in the properties window in Active Directory.

If you want to change these fields, you can change from Active Directory to LDAP in Admin -> Authentication in FogBugz. Here is the configuration for the vanilla Active Directory setup:

URL: LDAP://qa.fogcreek.local/dc=qa,dc=fogcreek,dc=local
user template: ^USER
filter used to validate a user: (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName=^USER))
attribute for the user's full name: cn
attribute for the user's email address: mail

Simply change "name" and "mail" as needed, e.g. use displayName for the full name.

I recommend simply creating a new custom category Task under Admin -> Workflow. When you do, it will setup some statuses by default. You can then edit those to make sure they're the ones you want. Make sure that you set the "work done" flag appropriately for each status for EBS purposes.

When I edit a case and get the "edit not saved" message, everything but the event text is lost

Repro:

Start editing case 123
Edit case 456 and set case 123 as its parent. Save this edit.
Change all the fields on case 123 and enter "big changes!" in the event body
Hit OK on the edit.

Expect:

"Edit not saved" because the case changed while you were looking at it.
All changes still show (body text AND field values)

Actual: 1. "Edit not saved" because the case changed while you were looking at it. 2. ONLY body text entered is saved. All my important changes to other fields are lost! sadface.

Note: This includes attachments and regularly causes me to send emails with the attachment missing.

FogBugz doesn't save your edit when a case has been changed somewhere else to prevent collisions. This is universal for all edits, so when you are editing a case and someone edits another one to set your case as the parent case, FogBugz considers your case changed. When you submit your change, you get the "edit not saved" message and have to submit again.

Request: change this so that edits that consist only of changes to sub-cases and parent-cases be ignored for the edit-not-saved mechanism.

Note: A better bet is actually fixing this bug so that field values aren't lost when you see the edit not saved message.

To add to Rich's answer, this is something you could create as a custom plugin. Ipmlementing the IPluginBugDisplay, you can show a calculated value in the case view (BugDisplayViewLeft or BugDisplayViewTop). If you want to add a column to the case list with filtering and search, it will be more complicated. You will need to be doing a calculation that can be done in SQL which our database APIs allow.

Feature Request: Configurable email notification limit

Right now, FogBugz has hard-coded limits to how many email notifications it will send to users in one 24 hour period.

I have hit a situation where a virtual user who is the primary contact for the Inbox has gone through it's 200 email limit and I want to be able to increase it but can't.

Request: make this configurable per-site or per-user.

The following limits are per-FogBugz user, not per email address. So if you have a virtual user called "Support Queue" and it is set to the same email address as your user, the two have their own notifications counters in FogBugz.

FogBugz 8.0.33 and later:

2000 notifications of case edits and assignments
200 notifications of emails from customers arriving in cases

Older versions:

200 notifications of any type of edit

To handle customer email through FogBugz, you set up Mailboxes.

Each FogBugz Mailbox corresponds to one incoming POP3 or IMAP mailbox where FogBugz receives mail. You can set up as many mailboxes as you want, for example, you could set up support@example.com as well as suggestions@example.com and bugs@example.com.

If you use FogBugz On Demand, hosted by Fog Creek Software, we've set up a single mailbox for you automatically on our own server. Incoming messages can be sent to cases@xxx.fogbugz.com, where xxx is your custom URL. You can also set up your own mailboxes.

To configure a mailbox, log on as a FogBugz administrator and choose Admin | Mailboxes.

Basically, you'll need to configure

Where the email comes from
What FogBugz should do with it

The following options are configured when you set up a mailbox:

Email address

The full email address of the mailbox, for example, support@example.com. This is the "from address" when FogBugz sends outgoing email.

Full name

The full name that will appear in the "from address" when replying to email from this mailbox, for example, Customer Service.

When you are replying to incoming email, you get a choice of using this name if you wish to remain anonymous, or you can use your own full name.

The next four settings are required unless you are configuring the FogBugz On Demand default mailbox:

Account name

The log-in account on the POP3/IMAP mail server.

Password

The login password on the POP3/IMAP mail server. FogBugz will use the account name and this password to log in and retrieve the email, just as any other mail client.

Mail Server

The DNS name or IP address of the POP3/IMAP mail server.

Port

The TCP port for the POP3 or IMAP service. For POP3, this is almost always 110 unless you're using secure POP3, which is almost always 995. For IMAP, this is typically 143 or 993 for secure IMAP.

Aliases

A comma separated list of any other email addresses which forward to this mailbox. This allows FogBugz to recognize these addresses as pointing back into FogBugz, and thus not send extraneous email to them.

Protocol

Select the type of mailbox. FogBugz supports POP3 and IMAP. For IMAP, choose whether you would like messages deleted from the server after they are downloaded or only marked as read.

Reply Automatically

Allows you to decide if users should receive an immediate automatic reply when they send a request into this mailbox. FogBugz will not reply to follow-ups, or to messages categorized as spam. Learn about automatic replies. Note that this is the only email that FogBugz will ever send without explicit action from a FogBugz user. Some systems send emails automatically on resolution or closure of the case, but we find that these can often cause more confusion than they prevent.

Due

To insure that email is responded to promptly, FogBugz can set a due date for every mail message that comes in. Learn more about due dates.

Sort Messages

FogBugz can sort messages automatically, including spam removal. Learn more about FogBugz AutoSort.

Message Template

Set up a signature that will be automatically inserted at the bottom of every reply you send in this mailbox. In addition to the special variables provided by Automatic Replies, you can also include the current user's name with {username} and personal email with {useremail}.

Delete spam after

To avoid spam filling up your FogBugz database, any message which is either resolved as SPAM or moved into the Spam area will be permanently and irrevocably deleted after the number of days you set here (defaults to 7). If you don't want to delete spam leave this blank.

Deleting old spam is handled nightly by the FogBugz Maintenance Service.

Delete inquiries after

If you do not wish to keep a permanent record of incoming email, you can set up FogBugz to delete the complete case history of all closed inquiries after a certain number of days.
