What has to change where in the Fogbugz 8 configuration when a database is moved from one SQL Server instance to another? Anything special needed to be done when the old DB is SQL 2005 and the new is SQL 2008?

Hi all,

since this morning I am getting the above error. We set up the server just about a week ago and used it successfully until Friday. When I got in this morning it failed.

I checked the ConnectionString (as recommended)

ensured that SQL runs

verified user account and permissions

verified that logging in with that account and DB works

used database server's IP address instead of computer name

Then I thought upgrading to 7.1.18 might fix it. The upgrade included database upgrades that ran without trouble. Still, it wouldn't connect to our database afterwards.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks

Guys,
I went to update to a newer version of FG & K 8 the other day but it told me I needed to install an SQL Server Component before I could continue.

Stupidly I never made a note of what that component was and I now need to start deploying it to our test / dev systems.

Can someone point me in the direction of the requirements for FB & K with MS SQL please?

The release notes don't really give any technical information...

I am attempting to update our Server running FogBugz 8 from using an Access database to using a MS SQL 2008 Database. Using the migration tool provided by Microsoft I have successfully imported all the data from the Access to the SQL database. When I attempted to login which the new database I get the login screen fine, enter the user name and password. When I click login however I get the Following error:

The INSERT statement conflicted with the CHECK constraint "SSMA_CC$FragmentCache$sValue$disallow_zero_length". The conflict occurred in database "fogbugz", table "dbo.FragmentCache", column 'sValue'.

The statement has been terminated.

Whenever trying to attach our MSSQL 2000 database in MSSQL 2005 or 2008 I get errors. I tried this over 3 years ago and was unsuccessful, and looking to replace hardware, so this is going to have to work.

I have attempted this many ways:
- Restore .bak into new 'blank' database.
- Attempt to attach database from .mdf/.ldf
- Using SQL integration services to import data from old server.

The data seems to be brought into the database, but it is unable to start the database. Sits there as (suspect).

I understand databases quite well, and am a Microsoft SQL Server DBA for many clients. This one is above me for some reason.

Are there any special instructions to migrate a FogBugz database from SQL Server 2000 to 2008. Any pitfalls to watch for?

What we thought we would do is create the 2008 instance on the same box as 2000 (this is a Server 2003 machine). Detach the database in 2000 and move it to the 2008 instance. Someone mentioned problems with the 2000 compatibility mode for databases in general though. Should we create a new database in SQL Server 2008 and import the data?

Once the data is moved, what do we have to do for FogBugz to find the new database server and database?

Looking for recommendations to make this transition go as smooth as possible.

Hi,

I just moved my FB (software + website + SqlServer 2008 R2 express DB) to a new server.

I followed the steps explained in this question except that I used SSMS and did a backup/restore rather than detach/attach.
The problem is that when I restore the DB, SSMS doesn't allow me to specify the owner of the DB. Therefore the DB is created with sa as owner and the FogBugz Windows user can't connect to it.
I temporarily solved it by specifying sa in the connection string (registry) but I'd like to fix that ownership (or permissions) issue.

Can anyone help (please assume I'm a newbie regarding SqlServer administration and security)

TIA,

Is it possible to merge two existing FogBugz databases ?
The first one is in MSAccess format and the one that we want to merge into is SQL Server.
My first thoughts were that there would likely be conflicts in the keys between one db and the other if I tried to do it manually once I had upgraded the first instance to SQL.
I don't suppose there is some sort of wizard that will merge two instances ??

I have a list of Projects and Areas from another application that I'd ideally like to just import into the FogBugz SQL db rather than having someone rekey. As an initial step, I just created a new record in Project on the SQL side - it does show up in the list for new cases, but doesn't show up in the project list in admin so obviously I am missing something. To what other tables beyond Project and Area would I need to add stuff for FogBugz to recognize an imported record as a valid Project?

I'm running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 for Small Business Sever Premium Edition, which includes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition, I believe). Since current versions of FogBugz require SQL Server 2005 or above, I'm considering moving to the free SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition.

Some other questions have partially addressed this but I'm wondering about some details.

Assuming my FogBugz database is smaller than the maximum size supported SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition, what steps should I follow to both install 2008 and migrate my data to it?

In particular, can I install 2008 R2 Express side-by-side with my existing 2000 installation? Do I need to worry about the 2008 installer trying to upgrade the 2000 installation since according to Microsoft, there is no supported upgrade path from Standard (paid) to Express (free)?

Assuming I can install 2000 and 2008 Express side-by-side, I assume I can migrate by following these steps. After I verify that the migration worked, can/should I remove the 2000 installation (I was only using it to run FogBugz)?

Which version of SQL Server 2008 should we upgrade to?

We are upgrading from SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2003. Our database is currently around 4gb with 16 users. We also run Vault on this same server in the same SQL Server instance with 10 users.

My understanding is Express Edition has a size limitation, so I'm wondering whether FogBugz cares about any functional differences between Workgroup / Web / Developer / Standard / Enterprise editions, or does it even matter for our size and volume?
